Try Healthy Not Trendy

If you want to be fit for the rest of your life, try healthy changes, rather than the latest fads. Whether you want to lose weight, build and tone muscles or build your endurance, no matter what that internet site said, you can’t do it all in less than two weeks. Getting fitter takes time, but you’ll see the results quicker when you know exactly how to eat healthy and exercise properly. That’s where help from people like me, personal trainers, can be of benefit.

Trendy diets may be hurting you more than helping you.

Let’s get this out of the way first. Diets don’t work….EVEN IF YOU SUCCESSFULLY LOSE WEIGHT! While most of the time they fail before you shed a pound because they’re restrictive and leave you feeling hungry, even if you lose weight they fail too. That’s because they end and you gladly go back to old eating habits that put on the weight initially. If you were on a super calorie-restricted diet, it also could put your body into starvation mode, slowing down your metabolism. Then when you go back to old eating habits, you actually gain more weight than you lost!

Eating healthy is the opposite of dieting.

When you learn to eat healthier, you learn how to make wiser food choices. For instance, you might still eat a burger, but not with a bun or open face. You might make substitutions, such as using unsweetened applesauce to replace some of the sugar or oil in baked goods, or steaming vegetables and seasoning them with herbs and spices. Wild rice might replace white rice for more nutrients and fewer calories. If you have a favorite food, it doesn’t mean you give it up entirely. You just eat it less frequently or in smaller portions. You also might learn to make a healthier version. People who eat healthy often eat more frequently, never feel hungry and never feel deprived.

Good old fashioned exercise has some modern updates to make it more effective.

No matter what field you’re in, there are always new discoveries to make any job easier or more efficient. That’s true of exercise and diet. As a personal trainer, I’m always on the lookout for new studies that show improved exercise techniques that take weight off rapidly. They’re out there and can get results faster when you use them. Knowing the right way to do these is important. That’s why I not only show clients how to do each workout, I also watch to ensure their form is proper so they maximize the benefits. Correct form also reduces the potential for injury.

There are all sorts of advertisements for undergarments that cinch your waist small. While there are no studies on health implications, most doctors agree this fad can restrict breathing and only helps temporarily.

Be aware there’s no “magical” food that makes you lose weight faster. Not even sauerkraut juice will do it, unless you drink it with a healthy meal.

Combining a healthy eating style with regular exercise not only sheds pounds, it makes you look and feel younger.

You’ll boost your metabolism and burn fat faster when you replace fat tissue with muscle tissue, making weight-loss easier.
